Abstract

They used to say that football is the most important unimportant thing in the world. It is also a very promising domain for game theory. This section provides an analysis of competition, applying some models, existing in professional football. It is important to point out that the purpose of this research is not to explore the regulation of sports leagues by antitrust law and sector-specific regulation, on the contrary, by means of analysis of synergetic functioning of professional football leagues, it attempts to understand the raison d'être of competition itself. Because of its universality and big popularity, football as a collective game is capable to encapsulate in a very concise form many societal phenomena. It is the case for football as a particular game and at the organisational level of football as a league. Despite the fact that the relationships in ‘real life’ are much more complicated, the structures of the intentions of the subjects usually are very similar.
